California Paid Sick Leave Detail
Launch uses the accrual method for California Paid Sick Leave. California employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, in accordance with the California Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (Cal. Lab. Code § 246).
Minimum entitlement (effective January 1, 2024)
- 40 hours / 5 days per year is California's minimum paid sick leave entitlement.
- Launch follows California law for California-based employees.
Mechanics
- Eligibility. All California employees who work for Launch for at least 30 days within a year of starting employment.
- Usage. Employees may begin using accrued paid sick leave on the 90th day of employment.
- Annual cap on use: Launch will allow use of at least 40 hours / 5 days per year (the statutory minimum).
- Accrual cap: The maximum total accrued balance Launch will allow at any time is 80 hours / 10 days (the statutory maximum permitted cap).
- Carryover: Unused accrued paid sick leave carries over from year to year, subject to the accrual cap above.
Permitted uses
- For your own diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition, or preventive care.
- For the diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition, or preventive care, for a covered family member: child, parent, spouse, registered domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or "designated person" (one per 12-month period).
- For specified purposes for an employee who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, or whose family member is.
Notice and verification
- Provide as much notice as practicable.
- Launch will not require verification or documentation as a condition of taking paid sick leave for the statutory uses.
No retaliation
Launch is prohibited by law from retaliating against you for using or requesting paid sick leave, or for filing a complaint with the California Labor Commissioner.
